In anticipation of the 79th anniversary of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs (July 27, 1947 – July 27, 2026), many charitable homes have been started for policy beneficiary families, revolutionary veterans, and victims of Agent Orange, helping these families settle down and demonstrating the principle of “drinking water, remembering the source.”
These days, the house of Mr. Pham The Thanh (born in 1950, residing in Group 250, Ngu Hanh Son Ward) is under urgent construction. Despite his advanced age, he is present at the construction site every day to monitor the progress, eagerly awaiting the completion of his new home. As a war invalid who was captured and imprisoned by the enemy, Mr. Thanh has not had his own house for many years and has had to live with his daughter’s family in a cramped, severely dilapidated single-story house.
Understanding the family’s circumstances, in early June 2026, the Business Association of Ngu Hanh Son Ward, in coordination with the Ward’s Culture and Social Affairs Department, organized the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a charitable house for Mr. Thanh’s family. Following the principle of “drinking water, remembering the source,” the Business Association of the ward provided 80 million VND in support, enabling Mr. Thanh’s family to have additional funds to build a sturdy house and stabilize their lives.
Continuing its journey of supporting policy beneficiaries in securing housing, in May 2026, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in the city, in coordination with relevant units, commenced construction on two “houses of compassion.” Among them, Ms. Le Thi Thu (Bac An Son village, Viet An commune) is an Agent Orange victim with particularly difficult circumstances, living in a dilapidated house but lacking the means to repair it.
Sharing in the joy, Mr. Tran Minh Quan (Ha Son village, Phuoc Tra commune), a revolutionary activist who was exposed to chemical toxins, is preparing to have a new house after many years of living in difficult and temporary conditions. In gratitude for his contributions, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in the city mobilized the Command of the 3rd Naval Region to provide 80 million VND in support; the Phuoc Tra Commune Veterans Association mobilized its members to contribute labor and donated 2 tons of cement to help his family complete the construction.
According to Colonel Nguyen Dang Thanh, Deputy Commander of Naval Region 3, supporting the construction of charitable houses is an activity with profound humanitarian significance, demonstrating the unit’s responsibility towards families who have suffered many losses and disadvantages due to the consequences of war.
Mr. Tra Thanh Lanh, Vice Chairman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in the city, said that in anticipation of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27), the City Association has actively mobilized units, businesses, and philanthropists to jointly support the construction of four new homes for disadvantaged members, totaling 320 million VND. This activity not only provides thoughtful care for policy beneficiaries and victims of Agent Orange but also spreads the spirit of solidarity, contributing to the effective implementation of the “Gratitude and Repayment” policy in the area.
